I touched the Lord. I felt His presence, understanding, and compassion concerning this dilemma- the false reality overlay, the impending total technocracy. Truly, it can never change the free and the brave. At 64 I remember much, and I have worked hard and well in my suffering seasons and in times of plenty and seeming good luck. My perseverance, faithfulness, and brotherly love did form out of metamorphic pressures that was definitely work. Intimacy with others- the beauty of community and felliwship- was made more rich through conflict leading to glorious reconciliation, surrender, acceptance. Labor is work. No pain no gain. Beauty from ashes requires redemptive work. God sends laborers into the lives of others to work His way, will, and wonder. Labor brings forth life from the womb. How beautiful are the feet of those on the mountaintops who share the Good News, who labor in love to extend a helping, empathetic hand. Work is an important part of God's purpose and plan. I'm a retired nurse whose great passion was caring for seniors living with moderate to end stage dementia. I have scars on my arms from work. I still work daily to serve and affirm others. Thank-you, Luke, for presenting a definition of work and a paradigm as a treasure chest metaphor filled with the gentle humility and even humor of the human heart that cries to God to keep us in His image He imparted to us to steward through work (as an expression of our love) at the very start. The harder problem may be that we built almost all our institutions around the objective dimension of work. If machines take the output, we have very little left that deliberately forms the person.
A machine can never know the joy of performance (whatever the task, or the art). Thank you. Especially resonated with the "ratio" driven way a machine thinks vs. a soul-driven existence. Blessings.
