This is Jean-Léon Gérôme’s 1896 painting “Truth comes out of her well” (“To chastise us with her whip...”, from the full title in French.) The legend: thousands of years ago, a lie assaulted the truth. She threw her into a well, stole her clothes, and has been walking the earth ever since dressed like the truth. This painting captures the moment the truth emerges. My question to you today comes from today’s newsletter: “What important truth do very few people agree with you on?”
